I'm Brazilian, I've always loved music and since I was little I buy and I listen to rock. During the 70's I met a magazine called Pop, which I christened German Pop, since it was of Germanic origin, I did not understand what was written in the great majority, but it was there that I met the groups that I publish here on the blog today. Rock made in Germany is one of my favorites, but my taste is very eclectic.

Zomby Woof - Riding On A Tear (1977)
Zomby Woof was a German symphonic rock formation, the name is derived from a Frank Zappa's his Mothers Of Invention composition. The band is rooted in 1971 when guitar players Heinrich Winter and Udo Kreuss joined Frank Keinath on bass and Thomas Moritz on drums in order to form a band that still had no name and no gigs. Soon Frank moved away and no replacement was to be found. As a consequence Ulrich Herter, another guitarist, joined the band and Udo Kreuss changes to bass guitar. Shortly afterwards the two keyboard players Matthias Seelman-Eggebert (Hammond organ) and Matthias Zumbroich (keyboards) also joined which meant that the sound changed, influenced by PROCOL HARUM. During the Hayinger Festival in 1974 (featuring German bands KRAAN, BIRTH CONTROL and EMBRYO) the band had their first tv appearance but in 1976 Thomas Moritz and Matthias Seelman-Eggebert left the band to concentrate on their studies and Bertha "Bea" Maier joined them on drums to form the line-up that can be heard on their LP. In 1977 they tried to earn a contract by sending the demo tapes from intense rehearsals to several record companies. Eventually the label Jupiter from the capital Munich accepted the band and the recordings started in the Olympia Music Studios in the spring of 1977. There they found a Mellotron, of course out of tune! Thanks to Udo Kreuss this incredible instrument was cleaned untilit functioned again. So despite the fact that the band didn't own a Mellotron, you can enjoy this ubiquitous keyboard on their album. On the cover you can witness the band in front of one of the slides they used during their shows. In the autumn of 1977 the LP was released by Jupiter and distributred by BMG Ariola. One estimates that eventually the sales went up to 5000 copies, a very reasonable number for such an uknown German band! A second LP on the Jupiter label never saw the daylight because Steve Kazan, the man who was responsible for this type of music was sacked because he got on everybody's nerves. In 1979 Berthold Maier and Heinrich Winter left the band to form Alarm. The were replaced by Achim Czech on drums and Harald Horvath as singer but this was not a sudden but rather gradual change in the line-up. Together with an additional vocalist named David Hanselmann (previously with MESSAGE and TRIUMVIRAT), this line-up recorded a second LP named No Hero in 1979 but the band was unable to find a record company. Without a recording contract and future prospects Zomby Woof split up, the last gig took place in their hometown Reutlingen on July 8th in 1980. Their music is very pleasant and melodic, vintage keyboard driven 24-carat symphonic rock. It sounds far from derivative, my closest comparison is Eela Craig and some Camel. The CD release contains the original nine tracks and four bonustracks (the single Dora's Drive and the B-side Mary Walking Through The Woods and two unrelased songs entitled Highwire Dance and Back Home from rehearsals) plus a 32 page booklet.
Why this artist must be listed in www.progarchives.com :
This is an extremely overlooked German progrock band that makes wonderful, vintage keyboard driven 24-carat symphonic rock.

Life - Spring (1970)
This was the German band's only album from 1971(originally released on CBS) and is a mix of Leafhound & the James Gang with melodic quiet short instrumental tracks which crop up throughout the album. The tempo of the opening cut is fantastic with time changes all over the place.Pure underground rock which occasionally hints at psychedelia. This release contains three bonus tracks which were not on the original album.
Two guys, half American and half German plus two guys from Munich recorded this album 1971 for CBS, produced by Julius Schittenhelm (famous of OHR-productions). Not unlike Sitting Bull they played an American stylish music with a West Coast feel combined with typical Krautrock influences. Occasional flute and trippy guitar playing and great vocals gave their songs a high standard rather above the average. This more unknown album is a real discovery. From the mastertape with informative booklet. Bonustracks. Tip! Recommended!

Klaus Krüger - One is one (1981)
Nevertheless, Klaus Krüger is to be recognized as a prominent artist of the 70s Electro-Rock Berlin-scene, this sort of recognition stretching beyond the aforementioned collaboration. In fact, a bit of Krüger's contact with the scene is depicted even from the previous decade, being mentioned that, since 1962, he and TANGERINE DREAM's main founder, Edgar FROESE, have known each other. Besides, Krüger was a member of "Berlin's art and design circles". Klaus Krüger's drumming extended to influential resorts, by developing his own drum sets and pioneering the use of polyester drums.
In 1978, Peter Baumann leaves TANGERINE DREAM, so Cyclone was also a search for new members, who implicitly brought a new sound to the music. Krüger's drumming can be distinctively heard through that set of compositions, as much as Steve Jolliffe's vocals strike. Krüger's collaboration, that same year, also extended on Edgar Froese's solo album Ages, though perhaps not so much on the drumming side as on electronic sampling and sequencing. Krüger is credited to have also played on TD's next album, Force Majeure, released in 1979. The collaboration with TANGERINE DREAM ends, anyway, in that year, Krüger's next role being of a totally different kind, as he was invited as a guest musician in Iggy Pop's punk supergroup for his album Soldier, along (ex-)members from Sex Pistols, Ivan Kral and XTC. Krüger's bond with TANGERINE DREAM could have resurfaced to a new and special chapter in 1992, when he was officially announced to be the guest drummer in the band's US Tour, but it actually never happened.
Klaus Krüger's focuses on solo music during the 80s, releasing One Is One and Zwischenmischung in 1981, respectively 1982. On the latter, Manuel GÖTTSCHING, from ASH RA TEMPEL/ASHRA guests on two specific tracks. Both were compiled and re-released in the 1989 compilation Collection. These works remain, overall, of a rare kind, being however, in the same time, the best way of discovering Krüger's personality, skill and thinking. The style of this music differs consistently in comparison with the artist's merits from the previous years, a reason for which everything mildly suggests a (very) late puncture of Berlin-school converging (and convenient) synth art. The two albums present variety and short-timed fusion, whilst not stretching with the electronic instrumentation past Moog- or Arp-based sounds. The analogue shape of what Krüger developed as an electronic expression evolves into space, electro-pop, New-Age or simple synth programming, resembling occasionally TANGERINE DREAM, Jean Michel JARRE or KRAFTWERK. Klaus Krüger's global taste for melodies, artificial measures, soft experimenting and sound filling is rich.
